The store is reminscent of the grocer/general stores of yesteryear, only with an unmistakable contemporary flair (the checkout areas feature granite surfacing). The small but efficiently stocked space is marked by tall shelves and narrow aisles - perfect for those of us left spiritually wanting in the fluorescent vastness of Meijer. The fact that carts simply cannot maneuver through the small store is divine intervention, and eliminates one’s tendency toward Darwinian aggression, if only for the short span of time spent inside.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the state’s primaries, the Jan. 15 Michigan contests remain tremendously important with Democrats Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama locked in a statistical dead-heat, and Republicans Romney, Huckabee, Giuliani and McCain similarly engaged. If you are a Michigan resident, 18 or older and registered to vote, you owe it to yourself to spend fifteen minutes on January 15 voting.
